Michael Alan Smith Obituary
Michael Alan Smith, 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Jacksonville, FL on April 6th, 2022. Mike, as he was known to his friends; Daddy to his daughters; Super Granddaddy to grand babies; along with Dad or Mr. Mike to his daughters' friends and neighbors. Mike battled multiple health issues for years.
Mike was born in Madison, WI and grew up in Houston, TX before he joined the United States Air Force. While stationed at Eglin AFB in Ft. Walton, FL he met the love of his life, Sheila. From there they traveled the world and raised two beautiful daughters. Mike retired from the USAF after 20 years as a Technical Sergeant, settling in Tallahassee, FL. He attended Keiser University, obtained his A.S. in Computer Science, then pursued a career in Computer Programming. Mike and Sheila relocated to Jacksonville, FL in December 2013. He was very passionate about his family, travel, The Arts, FSU baseball, gardening, and coin collecting.
Mike was proceeded in death by both of his parents, Velda Ann (Roberts) Smith and William Frank Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sheila (Sidebottom) Smith; his daughters Jennifer (Ryan) Shrode and Jillian Smith. Mike was blessed with nine amazing grandchildren: Alora, Daniel, Nolan, Jonathan, Isabella, William and Karis Shrode; and Ryleigh and Clayton Marsh. He is survived by his three siblings Susan (Matt) Green, Sandra (Jeff) Dolen and Steven Patrick (Sylvia) Smith.
Mike was a prankster all his life. He loved to laugh and loved life. His family was his world. He called his wife and daughters his "three guardian angels". Now they have one of their own.
The Celebration of Life will be held for friends from 12pm to 1pm, May 2th, 2022 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL, 32223.
A full Military Service will follow at 2:30 at The Jacksonville National Cemetery at 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL, 32218.
