It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Melva Joiner (Jacksonville, Florida), born in McCormick, South Carolina, who passed away on January 12, 2024, at the age of 76, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, James Melvin Strom Sr. and Bernice White Strom; her sons, James "Jay" Wilber Whatley III and Samuel Corey Whatley; and her brother James Melvin Strom Jr..

She is survived by: her husband David Eugene Joiner; her sisters, Martha Strom Huey, Sudie Strom Stansell and Lucy Strom Ruple; her son Russell Whatley (Michelle); her grandchildren, Colin Whatley, Lauren Whatley, Landis Whatley and Murray Flowers; and her cousins, Jennifer Savitz (Steve), Merrill Wilkie (Rosemary), Nora Wolfe (Lyn) and Jan Parnell. She is also survived by nieces and several nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Camp Brittney Ministries, 305 Johnston Road, Ninety-Six, SC 29666.
