He was predeceased by: his parents, Gordon Holcombe and Maggie Holcombe; his wife Ada Sue; and his sister Louise Singleton. He is survived by: his children, Lynn Read (Bill), Cindy Newton (Larry), Michael Holcombe (Pam) and Daniel Holcombe; his niece Susan Tate; and his nephew Stephen Singleton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Tunnels to Towers, Wounded Warriors Project or to St. Paul United Methodist Church.
