John Isaiah Moorer, Sr. (affectionately known as “Buddy”) 66, passed away on Saturday, September 24, 2022, in Jacksonville, Florida. John was born on Tuesday, July 31, 1956, to the late Bishop Jobie Moorer and the late Margaret Moorer in Pensacola, Florida. He would spend his childhood in Pensacola, along with his seven brothers and sisters.
John graduated from Escambia High School in 1973 and would go to live in Jacksonville, Florida, where he began working at the United States Post Office. In 1986, John joined the United States Army, with his first duty station in Panama. John served five years as a paratrooper before being honorably discharged in 1991.
John is predeceased by his father, Bishop Jobie Moorer and Elder Margaret Moorer, brothers Luke James and Joseph Moorer and brother-in-laws Herbert White and JD Williams.
John is survived by his son, John Isaiah Moorer, Jr. (Tanya), grandson John Isaiah Moorer, III and granddaughter, Mia Moorer. Siblings Joshua (Mary) Moorer, Mattie White, Amos Daniel (Marilyn) Moorer, Mary Elizabeth Williams and Chris (Carmen) Moorer. Sister-in-laws Priscilla Moorer and Kathleen Moorer, best friend Corey Ludaway and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be on Monday, October 3, 2022, at the Greater Refuge Temple, 1317 Rowe Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida, at 11:30 AM. Graveside services will be at 1:30 PM at the Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida.
