He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Steen and Nancy Paul Steen; his children, Larry, Ronnie Steen, Gail White and Mary Howell; and his brother Jerry Steen.
He is survived by: his children, Thomas of Wellford, Donna Edwards of Wellford, Sylvia Melton of Spartanburg and Virginia McGinty of Chesterfield, Virginia. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
