She was predeceased by: her parents, Leroy Nelson Sr. and Ozie Mae Nelson; and her husband Ronald E. Smith. She is survived by: her sons, Darryl L. Wakefield Jr. (Chanda) and Harrel C. Belle Jr.; her grandchildren, Jamauri L. Wakefield and Jamal L. Wakefield; her siblings, Alvin J. Nelson (Jeannette), Barbara Nelson, Leroy Nelson Jr. (Tameka), Linda M. Nelson, Michael R. Nelson and Lionel Nelson; her sisters-in-law, Brenda Nelson and Mildred Pope; and her cousin Deotis Joyner. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
