Charles Edward Grover Sr. Obituary
Was born on June 20, 1942 in Douglas, Georgia. He was the third of six children born to the late Roscoe and Ethel Grover.
Charles attended school in Duval County, graduating from Matthew W. Gilbert High School and Edward Waters College where he was a talented athlete and good student earning many awards. After graduation he became a teacher, Head Coach and Athletic Director at Stanton Vocational High School and Northwestern Junior High School. After teaching for more than ten years, he went to the Florida Department of Children and Families, where he retired as a Public Assistance Specialist, Supervisor after twenty-five years of service. Charles was also one of the original founders of the Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field Meet and remained actively involved in the event for many years.
Charles received Christ as his Savior on August 9, 1981 at Hope Chapel Ministries where he was a faithful member until his passing. He willingly shared his gifts, whether it was manual labor on the church grounds, planning the annual fun days, or being a Greeter at the front door. He was happy to support his ministry and the Kingdom of God.
Charles' love of people caused him to never met a stranger. He was a sports enthusiast and loved history. He enjoyed woodwork and took great pride in taking care of his lawn. He was known for having a beautifully landscaped yard. Charles loved family very much and especially cherished his role as father and "PaPa" as the grandchildren called him. He enjoyed doing things with them like watching cartoons together, going to the park or taking long drives to the beach just to get ice cream. He was known for also playing a few practical jokes as well. Later in life, hanging out with Xavier was one of his favorite pastimes.
Charles passed away peacefully on January 12, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe Grover and Ethel Summers Grover; youngest son, Craig Eric Grover; sister, Joyce Grover Clark; and brothers, Roscoe Grover, Jr., Mitchell Grover and Roscoe Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of almost sixty years, Gloria Dugger Grover; daughter, Carla Jenkins (Frank); son, Charles Edward Grover, Jr.; five grandchildren, Ericka Cain (Christopher), LaPorsche Smith, Jessica Jenkins, Jachin Watson and Frank Jenkins, Jr.; sister, Joann Bradford; brother, Ronald Grover; his eldest surviving cousin, Willie B. Grover; and many other relatives and friends.
