He was predeceased by: his parents, James Henry and Ella Gamble Frieson; and his siblings, Willie James Frison, Samuel Frison, Sr. and Esther McKelvie.

He is survived by: his daughters, La Rahn Waldon (Ben) and De Havillan Coats; his nephew Samuel Frison, Jr.; his grandchildren, Leslie Waldon, Natalie Hutchins, Faith Jones, Teri Murphy and Kauvaris Frison; and his close friend Barbara Williams. He is also survived by seventeen great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Community Hospice Center for Caring at Ascension St. Vincent's Riverside.
