He was predeceased by: his parents, William E. Abston and Marjorie I. Abston (Campbell); his son Donald; his siblings, Danny and Linda Sue; and his grandson Travis.
He is survived by: his former wife Cathy Jackson; his sons, Eric Abston of Lafayette, Travis Lee Abston of Frankfort and Billy Abston of Ohio; and his sisters, Rita Barnett (Larry), Charlene Taylor (Ray) of Frankfort, Darlene Inman of Florida and Gail Abbott (William) of Frankfort. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
