She was predeceased by: her parents, Wiley C. Carter and Winona Miles Carter of Minnesota; her daughter Sylvia Ladonna Johns; and her sisters, Colleen Conrad and Noreen Brunt.

She is survived by: her children, Colin Terry Dowdy, Connie Roy White, Jr., Winona Gai Thigpen (Timothy) and Dadrian Pendragon White (Kelly); and her brother Lawton Carter.
