He was predeceased by: his parents, Esker Kirkland and Myrtle Weems Kirkland. He is survived by: his wife Nora; his stepchildren, Michael D. Clark of Victoria and Cheryl A. DeRome of England; his children, Lisa K. Gonzales of Port Lavaca, Texas and John R. Kirkland, Jr. of Port O'Connor, Texas.; his siblings, Gary L. Kirkland and Elizabeth Carter; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Goble and William H. Lowe.
