He was predeceased by: his parents, William Henry Covington, Sr. and Edith Hilliard Covington; his son Michael Joseph Covington; and his sister Edith Mercer. He is survived by: his wife Diana Covington; and his children, William "Bill" Henry Covington, III (Susan), David Allen Covington, Debra "Debbie" Diane Latta (Emory) and Walter Scott Covington (Grace Elaine). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
