He was predeceased by: his parents, Sarah Miller Oliver and Ulysee Rushing; and his brothers, Ronnie and Reginald Rushing. He is survived by: his wife Lula Rushing of Virginia; his children, Latroy, Anthony, Sandra and Leory Rushing Jr.; and his siblings, Marsha Ann Johnson (Bill), Shelley Henley (Eddie), Sarah Ann Sams (Philip), Janice Hines (Tommie), Evelyn Reynolds (Elmore), Mae Rushing, Diane Rushing, Samuel Rushing, Jerry Rushing, Tony Rushing, Ulysee Rushing and George Rushing. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
