He was predeceased by: his parents, Jack Sumpter and Marion Sumpter-Strawder; his son Frankie Sumpter Jr.; and his siblings, May Sumpter, James Sumpter, Jack Sumpter, Pearl Thompson, Eva Mae Morgan and Mildred Sumpter.
He is survived by: his wife Joretha Sumpter; his children, Yvette Greene, Lawanda Rollins (John), Syna Sumpter-Williams (Michael), Cherier Sumpter, Melvin Shelley, Beverly Shelley, Kathy Faison, Kenneth Woodridge, Sr. and Reginald Rogers, Sr.; and his goddaughter Phyllis Livingston. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren.
