He was predeceased by: his parents, George Smith and Grady Ellis; and his siblings, Bobby Smith, Pat Ferguson and Darlene Cowley (Charles Cowley).
He is survived by: his nephew Sean Ferguson (LaDonna Ferguson) of Shepherdsville Kentucky; his great-nephew Michael Smith (Karen Smith) of Louisville; and also, Eric Smith (Suzee Smith) of Louisville, Tony Smith, Walter Smith (Becca) of Louisville and Ann Garcia (Brad) of Louisville Kentucky. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
