Mrs. Anne Davis, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2023. She was born on September 16, 1941 in Waynesboro, Mississippi to Carlos Milton and Lela Douglas Jones.

Mrs. Davis was a resident of Freeport, Florida. She grew up in Mississippi as the daughter of a school administrator and an elementary school teacher. She attended Jones County Junior College and received an M.S. degree in Education from the University of Southern Mississippi. She taught elementary school in Itta Bena, Mississippi, Richton, Mississippi, and Jackson, Mississippi and as a substitute teacher in Alabama. She was later employed by the IRS in Montgomery, Alabama as a Taxpayer Service Representative in Montgomery after receiving tax law training in Birmingham, Alabama and served as an inmate Pre-Release Tax Counselor at various Alabama state penal institutions. She and her husband Sam served as Youth Directors at the Richton, Mississippi United Methodist Church and the Marion, Mississippi United Methodist Church.

Anne was always involved in working and volunteering at various churches to which she belonged in Mississippi, Arizona, Alabama, and Florida. She was constantly involved with family and church activities wherever they lived. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed cruises and activities with her family, including two trips for mule rides in the Grand Canyon.

Mrs. Davis organized and served as a counselor at Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama and Good News United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida for the grief support ministry. She volunteered as a counselor at Julia Tutwiler Women's Prison in Wetumpka, Alabama, as well as with the Income Tax Assistance Program in Montgomery, Alabama, and was co-leader of The Compassionate Friends in Montgomery, Alabama. Anne went on numerous mission trips to the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona and to Costa Rica. Mrs. Davis was also a partner, with her husband Sam, at Davis Tax Service in Quitman, Mississippi, even after Sam had retired in 1994. Sam and Anne recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 8, 2023.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by father and mother; son Alan Jones Davis; and sister Barbara Jones Holcomb.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her loving husband of 60 years Sam Davis of Freeport, Florida; son John Raymond Davis of Mobile, Alabama; daughter Elizabeth Davis Barrett and husband Bill of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; grandchildren Josh Gallaspy and wife Danyalle of Crestview, Florida, Joel Gallaspy and wife Emily of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; great-grandchild Ellie Grace Gallaspy; niece Sherry Holcomb Laughlin and husband Paul of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; nephew Chuck Holcomb and wife Linda of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; as well as numerous other cousins and family members.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Good News Church; 4747 Highway 98 West, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459.
