With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Ella Catherine Mitchem Smith of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on January 16, 2025 at the age of 85. She was predeceased by: her parents, Arvin Arvil Mitchem and Burler Louvester Alford Mitchem; her brothers, Carl Thomas Mitchem, Charlie Mitchem and Othelis Mitchem; and her great grandchild Parker Thomas.
She is survived by: her daughters, Dorothy Smith Boles (Rusty), Barbara Smith Thomas (Ricky) and Joyce Smith Alford (Douglas, Sr.); her grandchildren, Joanie Thomas, Jared Mauldin (Candace), Jay Thomas (Vickie), Janna Mauldin and Robert Thomas; her great grandchildren, Jacob Nelson, Jayden Mauldin, Brady Thomas, Grady Henderson, Sawyer Mauldin, Mya Mauldin, Garret Thomas, Riley Thomas, Ethan Thomas, Sophie Mauldin, Zachary Sowell and Ashton Sowell; her brothers, Jeremiah Mitchem and Wendell Mitchem (Veronica); her nieces, Sandra Spann and Julia Bish; and her sister-in-law Bernice Mitchem. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 18th 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Davis-Watkins Funeral Home Chapel (1474 FL-83, Defuniak Springs, FL 32433). A funeral service was held on Sunday, January 19th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
