He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie James and Lela McDowell; his sisters, Christine McDowell Epps (Frankie) and Alice McDowell Tarvar (Sam); his father-in-law Reverend Thomas Rhyant (Odessa); and his sister-in-law Jacqueline Owens.
He is survived by: his former wife Irma Turner; his wife Linda Owens McDowell; his children, Roger Jerome McDowell, Charles Edward Jones (Rebecca), LarDonna McDowell and Darlisa McDowell (Jefferson Taylor); and his siblings, John McDowell (Hattie) of Fort Lauderdale, Eddie McDowell (Linda) of San Diego and Rosetta McDowell Walker.
