Sally R. Lane Obituary
Sally Russell Lane, 90, of Fort Ogden, FL died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 15, 2019. She was born in Manhattan and raised in Larchmont N.Y. where she was an avid sailor and swimmer. She graduated from Mamaroneck high school. She worked in retail and met her future husband, Robert J. Lane (Bob) when she was 23. They married in 1954 and eventually settled in Ridgewood NJ.
Sally loved being a wife and mother of six children. She volunteered in their schools and spent many happy hours running the kids around to all their extracurricular activities. She was an amazing baker, very creative and impressively organized. Sally and her husband retired at age 59 to the orange grove in Fort Ogden that has been in her family since 1890. She loved to work in the grove surrounded by her dogs. She would also golf and volunteer at her grandchildren's school library and would never miss watching her beloved Yankees.
She is survived by her husband, of 64 years, Robert J. Lane and six children, Robert Jr. (Rebecca) Lane of Sarasota, FL; Terry (Chris) Wilkins of Ridgewood, NJ; Thomas Lane of Fort Ogden, FL; Marian (Peter) Gilbert of Haddonfield, NJ; Kevin (Sybil) Lane of Atlanta, GA and Amy (Bob) Hibbs of Peachtree City, GA. She is also survived by one sister, Elizabeth Page of Larchmont, NY and 13 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph A. and Marian N. Russell, brothers Joseph A. Jr. and Thomas F. Russell and one sister Mary R. Greenlee.
A memorial mass was celebrated at St. Pauls Catholic Church on Thursday May 16th at 3pm. Interment at a later date in Fort Ogden Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Charities of Desoto County, in honor of Sally Lane.
