She grew up with four siblings and became a young housewife and mother dedicated to providing as much as she could to her seven children. Despite many obstacles, she persevered as an independent woman and worked multiple jobs, at times as a community nurse, journalist, seamstress and even a saleswoman. Elba was devoted mother, fearless in the face of adversity and she had an unassuming and quiet force, indefatigable in her love and support of her entire family.
Elba moved to the Unites States in the early 1990's, leaving behind her home in Peru to establish a life in New Jersey as full-time grandmother. Later in her life, she made Florida her home. She was an avid storyteller, an amazing cook, enjoyed world traveling with her children, a very good dancer, a big fan of broadways shows and concerts. Elba's sense of humor and consistent zest for life showed through even in the very last stages where there was little communication at all.
