It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Melanie Heston Collins of Florahome, Florida, born in Jacksonville, Florida, who passed away on October 22, 2023, at the age of 75, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Linden Heston and Mary Heston; and her siblings, David, Gary Heston and Mary Lynn Marohn.

She is survived by: her husband John Richard "Rick" Collins of Florahome; her children, Richard Tracy Collins (Rhonda) of Franklin, TN and Melanie Beth Nelson (Kevyn) of Florahome; her siblings, Richard Heston (Peggy), Linden Holden Heston (Lanita) of Live Oak and Nancy Lovely of Jacksonville; and her grandchildren, Kasey Leigh Nelson, Andie Lynn Nelson and Serena Laurel Collins.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Melanie's honor to causes that help children and people in need.

“I had the honor and absolute pleasure of meeting and working with Melanie when I was the Volunteer Coordinator for Community Hospice. Sometimes she would call me out of the blue to say, “I’ve been thinking about you and I want to pray with you. Can we do that now?” I think when God made Melanie he was singing This Little Light of MINE, I’m gonna let her shine. She did just that. Louann Gentry”
