He was predeceased by: his parents, Starling Mel Hammond and Mary Francis Littleton Hammond; and his sister Marjorie Hammond Roberts. He is survived by: his wife Shirley; his children, Robin Hammond, Elizabeth Burch (Bruce) and Michael Hammond (Julie); his sister Martha Hammond; and his friends, Harold Haddle and Leeman Borge. He is also survived by nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church.
