He is survived by: his wife Catherine; his sons, Stephen K. Hirst and Franklin R. Hirst; and his siblings, Keith G. Hirst of Sarasota and Margaret J. Elliott of San Diego. He is also survived by six loving grandchildren, and six adoring nieces.
In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be sent to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church of Dunedin.
