He was predeceased by: his wife Marguerite Ann Robbins; his parents, John Taaffe and Mildred Taaffe; his brothers, Robert and John Taaffe; and his son Robert O'brien.

He is survived by: his brother Lee Taaffe; and his children, Maurica Shields (Rick), Steven Taaffe (Lana) and Donald Taaffe Jr. (Mary Hodges).
