He was predeceased by: his parents, Adolph David Shaffer and Pearl Edna Shaffer (Huey); his wife Donna; and his sons, Scott and Kevin Shaffer.
He is survived by: his children, Mark, Mitch, Andy Shaffer and Susan Aljian. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
