He was predeceased by: his wife Fae S. Doty; his parents, John F. Doty, Sr. and Anne G. Doty; his siblings, J. Fredlin Seabolt-Doty and Frances Doty Hart; and his friend Alpha L. Howe.
He is survived by: his children, Deborah Doty Cali (Richard) of Lakeland, Florida and John "Jay" F. Doty III (Astrid) of Tampa, Florida; his stepdaughter Sharon Alba (Max) of Zephyrhills, Florida; and his siblings, Barbara A. Doty of Thompson Ridge, Helen D. Doty of Kingsport, Susan E. Doty Griffis (Thomas) of Winter Haven, Florida and William R. Doty (Catharine) of Rock Hill. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
