He was predeceased by: his wife Nanette Kirkland O'Neal; and his sister Louise McWhorter Kremer of Destin. He is survived by: his sons, Patrick O'Neal (Janet) of Suwanee and Michael O'Neal (Juli) of Nashville; and his grandchildren, Harrison, Kirkland, Graham, Mary Virginia, Charlie O'Neal and Collins O'Neal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Buddy can be made to the Monroe Carell Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt (VUMC Gift and Donor Services / 3322 West End Avenue, Suite 900 / Nashville, TN 37203-1197).
