He was predeceased by: his parents, Emerson Phelps and Betty Phelps; and his brothers, Bob and Tom Phelps. He is survived by: his wife Debbie Anderson; his children, Ken Phelps (Mindi) and Kristy Butwinick (Jay); his grandchildren, Jake Ramos, Luke Ramos, Clay Phelps and Norah Butwinick; and his brother Ronald L. "Fuzz" Phelps (Jan Lambdin).
His final wishes were to donate his body to cancer research through the Anatomical Board of the State of Florida at UF Health Shands Hospital.
