He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Gordon Sumner and Lilla Mae Shepherd Sumner; his brother Gordon Ray Sumner (Marie Evans Sumner); and his son Alan Wayne Sumner. He is survived by: his daughter Cynthia Lynn Sumner; his son-in-law Troy Ford Borema; and his granddaughters, Lana Marie Sumner-Borema and Lily Kalani Sumner-Borema of Saint John's Florida.
