Though David Michael may no longer walk beside us, his legacy lives on — a testament to the enduring power of love to transcend the boundaries of time and space.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John W. Merritt and Edith R. Merritt. He is survived by: his children, Shawn Merritt (Diana) of Gastonia, William Merritt of Charlotte, Jennifer Merritt of Wilmington and Charles Merritt of Charlotte; and his sisters, Carol Merritt of Cary and Terri Talbert (Eddie) of Roxboro. He is also survived by one grandchild, Seven Merritt, and his nieces and nephew.

“Dave and I grew up together in Roxboro. He was one of my closest friends. We spent a weekend together at UNC in 1966 and got together again in 1973 and 1974. I wish we had stayed in touch since those times. He marched to his own drum and was unafraid to do things his way. So sorry to learn of his passing. John Lunsford”
