Peter Michael Tydir Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Peter Michael Tydir (Daytona Beach, Florida), who passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loved ones.

Peter was born to Vasil and Alice Tydir on December 25th, 1948, in Teplice, Czechoslovakia and he was the older brother to Paul Tydir. At 19 years old, Peter fled Czechoslovakia in search of a better future. He found refuge in France, where he helped at the Canadian embassy since he spoke French and several other languages. Peter’s dream was to go to the USA, but as his period of asylum was running out, Peter’s officer at the embassy gave him a one-way ticket to Toronto, Canada. He purchased a paper suitcase before his flight because he did not want to be embarrassed without one, even though he only had the clothes on his back and a French book.

Peter lived in Toronto for a few years and his parents and brother joined him after Russia invaded Czechoslovakia. He worked for the Canadian government and helped at his father’s restaurant, Tydir Café, where he became an amazing cook. In 1972, Peter got a certification in Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Design at George Brown College and received a two-year contract to overhaul the units at Cape Town International Airport. In 1982, Peter emigrated to New York with his parents and his brother. After a while, Peter decided it was too cold in New York and found a relaxing beach town on the east coast of Florida, Ormond Beach.

In May of 1985, Peter was trying to call an old friend, but the operator connected him to Ivona instead. They exchanged letters for a couple of years and on August 8th, 1987, they were married in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. After Ivona moved to the United States, Peter and Ivona had four children: Andrea, Peter, Michael, and Patrick. With the help of Ivona, Peter went on to found, cultivate, and later sell two successful businesses: Climatron Inc. and General Mechanical Corporation. He held six professional licenses and specialized in mechanical systems on airport, hospital and facility installations in Florida and Geogia. Peter retired in 2019 after selling General Mechanical so that he could focus on enjoying the rest of his remaining time with his loving wife and children and later grandchildren.

Celebrating the life of Peter will be held on Saturday, February 8th, 2025 at 11 am in Prince of Peace Catholic Church located at 600 S. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, Florida following a reception.
