He was predeceased by: his parents, William Stafford and Virginia Stafford; and his sister Pat. He is survived by: his close friends, Dick Gray and Steven Rosner; his wife Hong Stafford (May); and his children, Lisa, Virginia, Matthew and Huazhou (Joe). He is also survived by five grandchildren.

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, William A. Stafford passed after a short struggle with the COVID-19 virus at the age of 75.
