He was loved and cherished by many people including: his husband Edward "Buddy" Sheppard, Sr.; his children, Shelly Cannon (Ricky) of Cross City, Janice Chesnut of Cross City, Lori Summers (Kevin) of Trenton, FL, Edward "Eddy" Sheppard, Jr. (Donna) of Cross City and Greg Sheppard (Lisa) of Cross City; his siblings, Otis Evans (Martha) of High Springs, FL, Jerry Wayne Evans of Cross City, Allie Willis (Steve) of Havanna, FL, Lela Fulford (Jerry) of Cross City, Dorothy Speir of Dawson, GA, Patricia Knight (Ken) of Bell, FL and Janice Taylor of Gainesville, FL; his grandchildren, Matthew Beckham, Cole Beckham, Ashley Johns, Shelby Anderson, Emory Summers, Renee Layfield, Erin Lavin, Erica Sheppard, Aaron Anderson, Kyle Sparkman and Kylie Sparkman; and his brother Sammie Evans. He was also cherished by six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

“I loved Joe Ann and am so saddened about her passing. She was my sister-in-law for over 20 years and always treated me with kindness and respect. When times were difficult, she was there to help me. I loved her laugh and quick wit. It is disheartening that she worked almost 40 years and then didn't get to enjoy not even one year of retirement. It is hard to understand that she had to pass the way she did. She was a darling person and I pray that the Angels sang her to Glory.
