He was predeceased by: his parents, Đỗ Ngọc Vy and Vy Thị Nguyễn; and his brothers, Đỗ Xuân Việt, Đỗ Ngọc Vụ, Đỗ Ngọc Vợi, Đỗ Đức Vọng and Đỗ Đức Vịnh.
He is survived by: his siblings, Đỗ Ngọc Vấn, Đỗ Ngọc Vược, Đỗ Đức Vàng and Đỗ Thị Ngọc Út; his children, Uyên Chapman (Leon), Mai Morris (Keith) and Vinh (Ashley); and his caregiver Sarah. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Viem's name to The Gideons International.
