He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Merkel and Lucille Merkel (Nordhoff); his grandson Hunter Wade Norris; his siblings, Gerald, Gerard and Mollie Jo Johnson; and his brother-in-law Ralph Lee Willette.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Lou Merkel (Myrick); his children, Verlin Merkel, II (Karen), Jason Merkel (Michelle) and Angela Norris (Wade); his grandchildren, Hannah Merkel, Tyler Merkel, Joshua Merkel, DJ Carpenter, Kaitlynn Carpenter, Marissa Merkel, Erin Sasser (Jordan) and Riley Norris; and his siblings, Albert Merkel, Jr. (Lynne), Karen Hogan (Ron), Linda Willette and Juleen Hugenberg (Jeffrey).
Visitation was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Our Lady of Victory Church (550 Adams Dr, Crestview, FL 32536). A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
