He was predeceased by: his parents, Morris Varner and Bobbie Shiver; his stepfather Edward Shiver; and his sister Cathy Shiver. He is survived by: his wife Kathy; his children, Molly Barrow (Keith Stephens), Scott Shiver, Sara Shiver (Josh Bloom) and Justin Joseph; his sisters, Gloria Kennedy and Gayle Cox; his grandchildren, Jailyn Joseph, Brooklynn Barrow Freeman, Hunter, Trey Barrow, Jace, Blake Joseph, Vinnie, Ollie and Eddie Bloom; and his great grandchild Everlee Freeman. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family.
