He was predeceased by: his parents, Greeley Steele and Dessie Steele; his siblings, Jeanette, Loretta and John; and his brother-in-law Hubert.

He is survived by: his wife Martha Paul Steele; his daughter Alicia Steele Cole (Dale); his grandchildren, Rachel Cole Jenkins (Kellon) and Caleb Cole (Erica Rendell); his great grandchild Davis Brooks Jenkins; his sisters, Joan and Sharon; and his siblings-in-law, Waylon (Brenda), Roger (Debbie) and Joan Faye (Ed). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
