He was predeceased by: his wife Dorothy Jean Bentley; his parents, Robert Bentley and Eldora Bentley; and his great grandchild James W. Shiver, Jr.. He is survived by: his children, Peggy Shiver, Deborah Bentley (Kendall) and Patrick Bentley (Rita); and his friend Melissa Moncrief. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
