He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles A. Preston and Elodia Mae Preston; his sister Charlene Preston; and his granddaughter Imani Hardnett. He is survived by: his wife Marva Preston; his children, Marvell Preston-Hardnett (Toraino) and Clyde E. J. Preston (Elaine); his granddaughters, Kayley and Tori; his brother John; his sisters-in-law, Janice Harris and Rita Harris; his nieces and nephews, Charles, Michael, Sedric, Chris Brown, Curtis, LeNorris, Evelyn, Teneisha, Merdis, Tiffany and Lyriss; and his cousins, Thelma, Sumner, Pamela, Andre, Shawn, Willie Lee, Brenda, Joann, Jessie, Wanda, Nathaniel, Anthony, Glen, Cornell, Vernae, Mark and Joyce.
