She was loved and cherished by many people including: her daughter Aida Fernandez Ramos; her son-in-law Hector Ramos; her grandchildren, Shakira Aida Ramos Crespo (Erik Crespo) and Yamil F. Ramos; her great grandchild Yamilet M. Ramos; her siblings, Enery Velez, Dr. Jorge Luis Velez and Luz Velez-Valentin; and her parents, Luis Velez Vera and Matilde Montalvo Pantoja. She was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers her family requests donations be made to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF).
