He was predeceased by: his siblings, James Helmke, Carol Komlosy (Frank) and Dottie Jo Helmke (Diane); and his parents, Martin Helmke and Dorothy Helmke.

He is survived by: his former wife Janet; his siblings, Thomas (Diane), Eileen Winter, Lynne Stoeckicht (Lou), Martin Helmke (Rita), Mary Discala (Pat) and Peggy Scarpulla (Frank); his wife Joan; his children, William Helmke (Christine), Theresa O'Farrell (John), Steven Helmke (Christina), Keith Helmke (Lori), Oliver Freitag and Sibyl Wilson; his pet Sassy; his grandchildren, Kristen Mills (Ryan), Joseph Costanzo, Michael Velez, Jake Velez, Jamie Schrock (Josh), Alex Helmke (Ali), Sydney Helmke, Jase Helmke, Laura Shaffer (Steven), Samantha Muniz (Jesse) and Keith Wilson; his great grandchildren, Andrew Mills, Adalyn Mills, Skylar Schrock, Gabriella Helmke, Mia Helmke, Ava Shaffer and Tony Shaffer; and his stepchildren, Tom Sheppard (Karen), Richard Sheppard (Lisa) and Lynn Sheppard. He is also survived by his siblings, his son, and many nephews.
