He was predeceased by: his wife Nancy Hobgood (Norman); his mother Zora Hobgood (McCormack); his brothers, Ronald Hobgood and Tony Hobgood; his grandparents, Clarence McCormack and Stella McCormack (Warrick); and his father James S. Hobgood Jr..

He is survived by: his grandsons, Tim and Matthew Cole Jr.; his stepsons, Matthew Cole Sr. and Nicholas Cole; his stepgrandson Matthew Cole Jr.; his sister Sherlyn Hobgood-Carter (Michael Carter); his nephew Joshua Hobgood (Ashley); and his niece Ashley Hernandez (Anthony). He is also survived by several family members, many lifelong friends and those he called brothers.
