She was predeceased by: her parents, Arvil H. Retherford and Thelma Hall Retherford; her husband Gene "Papa" Simmons; and her siblings, Pee Wee, Marvette, Hilton, Frank, Kermit, Dorothy and Carol.
She is survived by: her children, Freddie Simmons (Kathy) of Dothan, AL and Dianna Williams (Hugh); her grandchildren, Isaac Williams (Chrystal), Katie Helms (Dusty), Nikki Knowles (Michael), Meghan Spencer and Scott Simmons (Jen); her great grandchildren, Dylan, Jacob, Piper, Dean, Charlotte, Alison, Jack, Natalie, Casey, Karsyn, Lila, Tenley and Meryl; her great great grandchild Willow; and her sisters, Charlotte and Sheila.
In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to be made to Shiloh Baptist Church.
