He was predeceased by: his parents, Hardy Merritt and Vera Merritt of Havana, FL; and his sisters, Mable Keen of Tallahassee, Christel Hurst of Havana, Lois Sellars of Port St and Ruth Blackman of Havana.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Wilcox Merritt; his children, Randy Merritt (Sheila), Karen Jeffries (Alan), Kenny Merritt (Jamie) and Carol Burchfield; his grandchildren, Lacie Wilmot (James), Payton Regan (Christina), April Kinker (Jimmy), Lindsay Cross (Jeremy), Amber Fulmer (Everett), Kenny Merritt (Sandy), Merritt Burchfield and Kyle Merritt; his stepgrandsons, Josh Aites (Amber), Kevin Ingram (Sarah) and Justin Pepin; and also, Karen Brown of Chipley, Teresa Wynn of Chipley and Shanice Rouse of Panama City. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren: as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice who provided excellent care and compassion.
