He was predeceased by: his parents, Oscar Allen Buchanan Sr. and Maudie Leander "Sowell" Buchanan; and his wives, Juanita "Sasnett" Buchanan and Jean "Kessel" Buchanan. He is survived by: his children, Fred Buchanan and Connie Buchanan Shuller. He is also survived by four grandchildren four and four great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The West Bay Advent Christian Church the Youth Ministry of the Chipley First Methodist Church.
