He is survived by: his wife Catherine Varnum Schlein; his children, Alex Schlein, Kim Schlein and Lisa Schlein Smith; his son-in-law Timothy Smith; his granddaughters, Lucy, Molly, Alice and Ella Smith; his brothers, David Schlein (Susan) and Stuart Schlein (Sylvia); and his sister-in-law Debbie Schlein.

“I met Marc and Stuart when Marc was living in Polk County, FL and was operating an optician office at the Winter Haven Mall in approximately 1978-1979. My family was operating a candy kiosk across the aisle from Marc’s business. He was kind to me and encouraged me to keep my eyes on the prize (not a real goal at 16, 17 years of age). I’ve never forgotten him and the things he taught me.”
