He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Rivers and Mattie Baker Rivers; and his sisters, Myrtle Nobles, Mildred Borowski and Ophelia Hurst.
He is survived by: his wife Gail Thomason Rivers; his children, Laura Allison, Melissa Bryant (Jimmy), Michael Rivers and Eddie Rivers (Chari); and his siblings, Ernest Rivers, Olon Rivers (Mitzi), Grace Severin and Madeline Black. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice or the American Cancer Society in his name.
