He was predeceased by: his parents, Nettie Phillips McDonald and John McDonald; his former wife Peggy Carnley McDonald; his siblings, Wilmer McDonald, Wilburn McDonald, Carl McDonald, Elvin McDonald, Mary Brooks and Dorothy Diemer; and his grandson James McDonald.
He is survived by: his wife Judy McDonald; his children, Sandy Gates (Michael), Tina McKenzie (Randy) and Tommy McDonald (Carla); his grandchildren, Kevin Gates, Kerri Gates, Kelli Gates, Ryan McKenzie, Rylee McKenzie, Reanna Dunham, Rachel Royster, Allen McDonald and Tanner McDonald; his stepsons, Austin Thomas, Cody Harigel, Sheldon Harigel, Malcolm Harigel, Shannon Harigel, Shane Harigel and Sean Harigel; and his siblings, Marie Powell, Bertha Comons, Vera Volovecky, Vivian Lambeth, Herman McDonald and Charlie McDonald. He is also survived by great grandchildren.
