He was predeceased by: his parents, Elder Shanks and Lucinda Shanks (Townsend); his wife Mary Shanks; his children, Betty Jo, Earnest, Earl, David, Marvin and Sylvester; his grandchildren, Caryle, Sylvester Jr. and Earl III; and his siblings, Elder Demetrice Shanks, Louise Wiggins and Josephine Walker.
He is survived by: his children, Rosalyn Eady of Indiantown, FL, Yvonne Godbee (Harrison) of Indiantown, FL, Lloyd Shanks of Indiantown, FL, Robert Shanks (Vernadeen) of Indiantown, FL and Mary Lisa Hiller (David) of Indiantown, FL; his sister Evelyn Duncan of Valdosta, GA; his grandchildren, Lakesha and Brian 'Bo Jackson; and his great grandchild Terrance Jamal Dowling. He is also survived by Grandchildren (38); Great grand children (75); Great-great children.
