He was predeceased by: his parent Lovetta Whitaker. He is survived by: his wife Sandra; his children, Joshua Whitaker (Heather), Jeremy Whitaker (Tanya), Denise Boyett Cannon (Adam) and Lee Boyett Lavender (Jimmy); and his siblings, Tab Whitaker and Tami Rawlins (Jack). He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
